Acting CJ reviews preparations for upcoming Special Lok Adalat by SC | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 20 (KNO): Chief Justice (Acting), High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Patron-in-Chief & Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, Tashi Rabstan, Saturday chaired a crucial meeting to review progress on identifying cases amenable to amicable settlement during the upcoming Special Lok Adalat. The special lok adalat would be organised by the Supreme Court of India from July 29, 2024, to August 03, 2024. The meeting was attended by D C Raina Advocate General; Shahzad Azeem, Registrar General High Court of J&K and Ladakh; Achal Sethi, Secretary Law; and Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary J&K Legal Services Authority and Nodal Officer for the Special Lok Adalat. During the discussions, Justice Tashi Rabstan emphasized that out of the 107 cases identified and forwarded by the Supreme Court of India, 50 cases pertain to service disputes and 12 cases involve land acquisition issues. The acting Chief Justice urged upon the Ld. Advocate General and the Secretary, Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs to mobilize all the government departments to ensure settlement of maximum number of cases listed during the Special Lok Adalat. Advocate General informed that a meeting has already been convened with all the concerned departments. Additionally, the list of identified cases has been shared and the departments have been directed to prepare a detailed report on the cases that can be amicably settled during the upcoming Special Lok Adalat. He added that the report will be furnished within a couple of days. In light of the discussions, the meeting resolved that the Ld. Advocate General and the Secretary, Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, will actively engage with the concerned officers of various government departments to facilitate the amicable settlement of cases during the scheduled Special Lok Adalat. Justice Tashi decided to convene another meeting in the coming week to review progress based on the reports received from the concerned departments—(KNO)
